Corot
Washerwomen in a Willow Grove
1871 · Canvas, 38 × 46 cm
Clark Art Institute, Williamstown
See in the collectionThe Landscape of Artois of the Boussod, Valadon et Cie books, Robaut’s no. 2011, bought at the Heugel sale of 26 May 1905 and sold to Baron Denys Cochin on 26 August 1908 for 42,000 francs, the day he returned Château-Thierry[1, 2]. The Clark gives it Robaut’s no. 2011 and the same route, from the Heugel sale, where it was called Paysage d’Artois, to Boussod, Valadon in 1905, then a silence until Count Pecci-Blunt in 1940, which the thirty-five years of Denys Cochin and his family fill[3, 4].
In his hands: Came on 26 August 1908, from Boussod, Valadon, 42,000 F
Today: At the Clark Art Institute, Williamstown, 1955.526, bought by Sterling Clark in 1941 under the title Paysage d’Artois[4].
