See in the collectionA study for the Young Ladies on the Banks of the Seine of the Salon of 1857, according to Fernier, no. 206: from Juliette Courbet, acquired in 1915 by Durand-Ruel and sold the same year by Bernheim to Baron Denys Cochin, then Durand-Ruel, the shipowner Stang in Oslo and madame Annie Bergh[1]. The National Gallery gives the dates: sold by Juliette Courbet’s heiress to Bernheim-Jeune on 8 September 1915, their no. 20487, sold by them to Denys Cochin on 5 October 1915, bought back on 4 January 1917 and passed on 28 February 1917 to the dealer Walther Halvorsen for the Norwegian shipowner Jørgen Breder Stang[2].

Today: At the National Gallery in London, NG6355, bought at Sotheby’s on 1 July 1964, lot 75a; the museum now gives it as “possibly after Courbet”, 1870s, and does not believe it to be by his hand[2].
