A Small Still Life
See in the collectionNo. 5000 of Vollard’s book X, “a small canvas by Cézanne, still life”, sold to Cochin for 5,000 francs on 2 January 1908, which the catalogue matches to no known canvas[1]. Among his still lifes only one is small and came to him at a date the catalogue does not know: the Bowl with Fruit, 25 by 39, which went to Bernheim-Jeune on 3 July 1913[2]. The others are too large or dated otherwise, the Still Life with Plaster Cupid from Vollard on 14 March 1910, the Flowered Curtain and Fruit on 27 February 1907[3, 4]. The Bowl is therefore the candidate; the relining number 365 that Vollard noted on the back would settle it[1].
In his hands: Came on 2 January 1908, from Vollard, 5,000 F
